Poems bring applause
A ten-year-old girl lit up a function in St Ann, Sunday, March 5, when she cussed out bleachers and men who didn’t mind their children.
In two original poems, Lyhena Brown of Discovery Bay, first ´professed love for her black skin as beauty, and blasted those who bleached their skins. She mocked them saying they looked like monkeys and had to use umbrellas [to shield from light] in broad daylight.
The poem, ‘Black Mi Empower’ received loud applause and an encore.

But the tougher one was to come when she delivered ‘Wutliss Puppa.’
Some of the words raised a few eyebrows but generally the presentation went down well with the audience, mainly women, cheering wildly.
Lyenha was one of a few performers and many guests on stage at a ceremony to honour Kerisha (Mumma) Simpson. a community leader in Old Folly, a district of Discovery Bay. Miss Simpson was hailed as a true businesswoman, disciplinarian, mother, friend, advisor to many and a community stalwart. The function was staged at the Discovery Bay Community Centre and among those paying tribute was Krystal Lee, Member of Parliament for North West St Ann.
