Police are still searching for a man who reportedly fired on them before the vehicle in which he and another were travelling crashed in Ocho Rios, St Ann.
One man was found dead in the Toyota Axio that crashed near the market and Transport centre in Ocho Rios, just before midday Thursday, February 16.
Police have not confirmed his identity but he is said to be 26-year-old Tevin Stewart, unemployed of Pimento Walk Ocho Rios, St Ann. Stewart was before the St. Ann Parish Court on robbery charges.
Reports are that police CCTV unit spotted the car that appeared to be one involved in a robbery at Island Plaza in Ocho Rios on Sunday last.
When police approached the car and identified themselves a man inside opened fire and the car sped away before it crashed and overturned on a heap of building material.
Onlookers told the North Coast Times that one man crawled from the vehicle and jumped over a wall and escaped.
The other man, with bullet wounds, was removed from the vehicle and pronounced dead at hospital. A colt .45 pistol and a magazine with three rounds were taken from his body.
