The St Mary police have a man in custody in connection with their investigations into a fire that killed a four-year-old girl in Highgate in the parish, Tuesday morning, October 18.
Dead is Sariah Cohen of Deans Pen, Highgate. The girl’s mother who was injured in the fire remains in hospital.
Reports are that at about 3:30 this morning members of the household were awakened by an explosion and discovered that a fire had started. It quickly spread through the wood and zinc structure.
The fire brigade was summoned and responded.
Fire officers on the scene were told that a little girl was in the house.
Sariah’s charred remains were found during cooling-down operations.
Members of the family were taken to hospital where the girl’s mother was admitted and the others treated.
Reports are that a bottle bomb had been thrown into the house, causing the fire. A man has been held in connection with the investigations.
