3 men killed in confrontation with police in Trelawny

 

The security forces shot and killed three men in what was said to be a confrontation with gunmen during an early morning operation in Hague Settlement, Trelawny on Saturday, October 8, 2022. Police said they seized three illegal firearms in the joint police-military operation.
A member of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) was shot during the confrontation.
Those killed have been identified as: 26-year-old Trevor Rhynie, otherwise called ‘Beenie’; 23-year-old Oshane Surgeon, otherwise called ‘Primo’, and – 21-year-old Tossaine Cleghorn.
Police said Rhynie was previously convicted on gun possession charges and sentenced to five years in 2017.

A release from the police said the police-military team responded to calls received about an illegal event that was taking place in the Hague community. Intelligence gathered suggested that members of several affiliated criminal gangs were present and partying together.
It is further reported that on arrival of the security forces at the location, several persons were seen who engaged the security forces in a gunfight. When the shooting subsided, it was realized that three men and a JDF soldier received gunshot wounds. The men were taken to a hospital where they later succumbed to their injuries. The soldier is in stable condition and receiving treatment.
Three 9mm pistols and seventeen rounds of ammunition were seized.
