Police seized a number of cell phones and other devices in the upscale, gated community of Richmond Estate, St Ann, Saturday morning, and took several people into custody.
The police action was part of what Senior Superintendent of Police David White called Operation Leviticus, launched weeks ago in the parish.
The police raided sections of the Richmond Estate and the St Ann’s Bay market starting at day break into the early afternoon, Saturday.
The police said a number of cell phones and other devices with a value of more than a million dollars were seized and several persons were taken into custody for further investigations and possible charges. They did not specify what the other devices were.
Only on Thursday last, SSP White told the St Ann Municipal Corporation that they had intelligence that criminal elements were hiding out in some upscale communities in the parish and that in some cases they were large US denominated rent for up to a year, up front.
