COMMISH LAUDS AREA COMMANDERS

The Police Commissioner has praised ACP Ealan Powell, head of Area Two ACP Warren Clarke, head of Area One for initiatives they have taken in the North Coast parishes under their control. Commissioner Owen Ellington on Friday, by way of a press release commended his five commanding officers of the police divisions covering the country. He said: “In recent years, the role and participation of Area Commanders have notably changed for the better. The current participation of Area Commanders is a significant reason for the successes that are now being enjoyed by the Jamaica Constabulary Force, particularly in the areas of crime reduction, operational efficiency and administrative prudence.” The Commissioner cited examples of the effective strategies that are being driven by Area command, as follows:

In Area 1, the effective coordination and utilization of operational resources by ACP Warren Clarke to conduct inter-divisional operations has resulted in significant success, particularly against gangs and the lottery scam. One of the most affected gangs is the Alma gang which intelligence indicates was responsible for about 10 murders and three shootings within a six month period in 2013; this gang is now dismantled. The lottery scam, which was deemed to be athreat to national security, was previously concentrated in St. James. Through effective police action, scamming has been significantly disrupted and its potency is diminishing. With regard to ACP Ealan Powell of Area 2, the Commssioner said Powell “has introduced a raft of strategies which have positively impacted public safety and confidence for citizens and visitors alike. The main focus of these strategies are on public order, traffic management and visitor security. There is also meaningful effort to improve the morale of sworn and unsworn members of the JCF. One such effort is the Area Awards banquet which recognizes outstanding performances.”
