A cop charged for the murder of a man in St Ann was last Monday, May 5, sentenced to 21months imprisonment for a separate crime involving his alleged murder victim. Constable Jeffery Peart appeared in the Westmoreland Circuit Court on a charge of breaching the Corruption Prevention Act. He was charged after he was caught in a sting operation receiving money he had asked for from a taxi operator, Delroy Frame who plies the Negril to Lucea route. Police say Frame reported that in April 2012 Cons Peart had solicited $20,000 from him not to take action on several traffic violations. Frame disappeared and his headless body was found near his car, days later, in May 2012, near Cave Valley, St Ann. Police say Peart’s sister enticed Frame to take her to St Ann and offered him favours but instead, in a conspiracy with her brother, Cons Jeffrey Peart, the taxi operator was killed. Peart and his sister Roxanne Peart are before the St Ann Circuit Court for murder. The Westmoreland Circuit Court was told that Frame reported the matter to police and a sting operation was set up. Cons Peart was caught on video accepting marked bills from Frame, in Negril. Peart was charged with breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act. It is in that case that he was convicted last week. He is to appeal the conviction.
