A number of assault related cases were brought before parish judge Andrea Thomas in the St Ann’s Bay Parish court on Thursday, February 2.
Here is a synopsis of what unfolded:
Among those charged is Marvin Watt, for wounding with intent and malicious destruction of property. It is alleged that on December 5, 2016, Watt used a compressor to hit the complainant, Sadian Moore, causing a wound.
Moore claimed that her cell phone was destroyed when the incident occurred. Watt, however, pleaded self defense.
Watt claims he was acting in self defense after Moore poured hot water on him.
Contrary to those allegations, Moore told the court that she did pour ‘water’ on Watt, but it was “not hot water, it was warm.”
Also, according to Moore, she used the water as a retardant, to get away from Watt who was holding on to her.
When Judge Thomas asked Moore how she wished to settle the matter, Moore responded by saying she “just want him (Watt) to replace the phone.” The phone was said to have valued $16,000 at the time it was purchased.
Watt agreed to replace the device and is slated to return to court on March 2, when he is expected to present Moore with the replacement.
Also charged is Andre Whittaker who pleaded not guilty to assault. Whittaker had his bail extended until June 1, when the matter is set for mention.
Oshane James is another man charged with assault. Allegations are that on December 18, 2016, James used a knife to inflict wounds to the left side of the complainant. James pleaded guilty with an explanation.
The complainant in this matter, Jermaine Clarke was absent and James’ explanation was not heard. James’ bail was extended until June 1, when he will return to court.
Wiseman Treasure was charged for unlawful wounding. Allegations are that on December 17, 2016 Treasure used a machete to slap the complainant, Rohan McKenzie on his neck. McKenzie was wounded.
Treasure pleaded not guilty and is to return to court on May 4, when an outstanding medical report should also be submitted for the file.
