Police came up big in a raid Monday in Drax Hall area, St Ann following a break-in and robbery at a home occupied by several Chinese nationals.
Police arrested five people, seized two guns, several rounds of ammunition and motor vehicles at a home during the raid before daylight. They would not disclose exactly where the raid was carried out in Drax Hall, which has several large residential communities.
However, SSP Wayne Cameron confirmed to the North Coast Times Monday that police seized one illegal Glock pistol and one Taurus revolver as well as 111 rounds of 9 mm cartridges. In the early morning raid the police also seized 10 pounds of ganja and arrested five people, one of them a woman. Police also removed from the premises two motorcars and one motor cycle as part of their investigations.
The raid came days after gunmen entered the residence of Chinese nationals who are operators of a supermarket. Reports are the robbers entered the house in a gated community in Drax Hall by forcing out grills at the back of the building. They then awaited the arrival of the Chinese residents. When several of the residents returned they were held at gun point. Two of the men who had entered the house put guns to the heads of the more senior of the residents and demanded money. More than J$500,000 plus US and Canadian currency, were taken from them. The total cash stolen was just over $1 million being proceeds of the day’s sale. No one was hurt.
Police say they are investigating that hold up and robbery and would not say if the raid Monday had anything to do with it.
