The Easter session of the St Ann Circuit Court opened this morning in St Ann’s bay with some 110 cases.
That’s slightly fewer than the 116 cases at the previous vcircuit session which did not get through the great majority of cases.
High Court Judge, Justice Lloyd Hibbert who is presiding signalled that this would likely be his lastsojourn in St Ann as he is retiring.
He called on the prosecution to dispose of cases that will not progress or for which there is no overwhelming evidence for it to be prosecuted. Also, he has appealed to the defence attorneys to utilize the new legislation that allows for discounts in sentencing of accused persons, once a guilty plea has been entered.
The prosecution will be represented by deputy director of public prosecutions Sharon Milwood-Moore and crown counsel Larona Montague-Williams.
