The driver of a bike that slammed into the back of motorcar resulting in the death of his female cousin has appeared in court on charges connected to her death.
Wayne Clarke has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving. Clarke appeared in the St. Ann’s Bay Resident Magistrate Court on Wednesday, December 23 where he was granted bail.
Shanice Clarke, 21, died from massive head injuries following the crash on the Queens Highway, on Sunday, November 29.
She had accompanied her cousin who had been among bikers participating in a bike party at Queenhyte, near Discovery Bay, St. Ann.
Police say Ms Clarke was the pillion on her cousin’s bike when the crash took place. Shanice was sent flying head first into a Honda motorcar, smashing the rear windscreen and ending up inside. She was not wearing a helmet.
Wayne Clarke was charged on Wednesday morning, December 23, and was granted bail in the sum of $350,000.
He is to return to court on February 4, 2016, when the matter is to be mentioned.
Attorney representing Clarke, AyanaRoyes (from the chambers of Oswest Senior Smith) told The Times that the motorcyclist, Clarke, did not flee the scene of the accident as police had reported. In addition, she said the papers for the bike were available and it was not true that the bike did not have any papers. She went on further to explain that the accused, Clarke has been in contact with the police and has been questioned prior to being charged on Wednesday morning.
Mr Clarke is also saying that the Honda passed him and then braked suddenly in front of his bike. The North Coast Times has also received information that the driver of the Honda knew Shanice Clarke.
