Ferncourt High School embarked on a wave of excellence at its Back-to-School Conference during the week of August 17-21, 2015.The principal of Ferncourt High School, Rev’d Lenworth Sterling and his team of his hardworking teachers began the new school year by highlighting students who displayed outstanding performance in academics in the previous school year in both the internal and external examinations.Students who are members of the Principal’ Distinction Club and those on the Honor Roll as well who sat CSEC as members of the Academic Accelerated Programme were in for recognition by the principal. These students’ performance range from 70% and over in internal examinations to students receiving grades 1-3 in the CSEC Examinations. Students received Gold and Blue Cards, Badges of Distinction and trophies.No Back-to-School Conference is complete without the principal welcoming all the new students, especially the grade 7 students. Top performing GSAT students in the different subject areas were recognized and awarded. Jamie Gray coming from the Claremont All-Age School was the Top Student entering the Grade 7 Programme and was given a scholarship which will pay his school fees for the duration of his five years at the school. Other students receiving scholarships for the five years were Khaeme Rattigan, Matthew Beckford and Deneika Traille. These scholarships were offered by Past Student, Dr. Judith Johnson from the Class of 1976 and Mr. Clive E. Waugh, Executive Director of The Hixroy & Hazel Waugh Scholarship Fund.The principal outlined the school’s plans for the year 2015/2016 in Academics, Students’ and Staff welfare and Students’ Social Development. He also praised the teachers in their achievements in 2014/2015 especially in Mathematics, English A and Spanish. The School’s Theme for the year is “If you want to be the BEST, you must beat the best.”
This will indeed serve as a motivation for the students to work hard to achieve excellence throughout the school year as the school motto states “Labor Vincit” which means hard work conquers.
