The man accused of sexually assaulting a resident at the St. Mary Infirmary last year had his bail extended when he appeared before the St. Mary Circuit Court on Monday, July 6. Charged with rape and indecent assault is Asha Lowe, 29. His bail was extended when he appeared before Justice Frank Williams on the opening of the St. Mary Circuit court at the Port Maria Court house. Lowe is represented by attorney at law Romar Dallas. The accused who is originally of Tryall, St Mary did not answer on the first occasion when his case was called up. His attorney, Dallas, could not explain his absence. When the case was revisited after the accused man appeared, lead prosecutor Kelly-Ann Bowen informed Justice Frank Williams that the psychiatric evaluation was still incomplete. In defense, attorney Romar Dallas informed the judge that Lowe’s father, who has primary responsibility for him, is working in Kingston and this posed a difficulty for Lowe in getting the psychiatric evaluation done. Mr Justice Williams set the matter to be mentioned on Tuesday, July 21 to allow for the psychiatric evaluation to be done. Lowe was arrested and charged with rape and indecent assault last year March after he was pointed out in an identification parade following the alleged incident on February 9, 2014. He is accused of sexually assaulting a 69-year-old resident of the St. Mary Infirmary. Lowe has always maintained his innocence in relation to the allegations against him. The allegations about the rape of the inmate raised many questions about supervision at the infirmary where a portion of the fence had been broken down.
