Several persons who appeared before the St. Ann’s Bay Resident Magistrate Court on Tuesday, June 2 pleaded not guilty and had their cases set for mention and trial, by Resident Magistrate Andrea Thomas. The court was marked by a day of absenteeism by police officers who were reportedly calling in ‘sick’ as early as midnight Monday. Here are some of the assault cases mentioned before the RM court:
Phillip Morris pleaded not guilty to assaulting complainant Dwayne Campbell on April 10. The clerk of court told RM Thomas that the medical certificate was available and were ready to be served on the accused man. A trial date for the matter was set for November 10. The accused man’s bail was extended until that date.
Edgar Fyffe also pleaded not guilty to charges of assault and malicious destruction of property. The court heard that on April 17, Fyffe assaulted the complainant, Tamika Skeffrey by wounding her. Subsequently, it is also alleged that he destroyed her cellular phone. RM Thomas set the matter to be mentioned on September 1 as the medical certificate is still outstanding in the matter. Bail was extended for Fyffe.
Raymond Mullings is charged with assaulting Tanya Lindo. It is alleged that the accused man assaulted the complainant, Lindo on April 21. The accused man, after hearing the charges laid against him, pleaded not guilty. The clerk of court told RM Thomas that the medical report was still outstanding in the matter. When RM Thomas asked the complainant if she wished to further proceed with the charges against Mullings, the complainant indicated that she was still interested in the matter being put to trial. A mention date of September 1 was set. Bail was extended for the accused man until that date when it is hoped that the medical report will be completed.
