Nine sashed in Miss St Ann Festival Queen contest

The contestants for the Miss St Ann Festival Queen contest 2015 were all presented with their sashes on Thursday, April 15, at a ceremony held at the Shaw Park Beach Hotel in Ocho Rios, St. Ann.The organizers, friends and supporters of the contestants were all present to give their support and words of the encouragement to the young ladies, as they take a step in representing the parish of St. Ann.Cultural organizer, Wentlin Mantle, who was the master of ceremonies, in bringing welcome at the ceremony said that the contest was crucial in unearthing and developing the young leaders of St. Ann and the urged the young ladies to showcase the best of themselves.Each of the nine contestants, who vying for the title, was then asked to introduce themselves to the audiences. The contestants were then sashed with each sash named after an important historical site or person in St. Ann. They were sashed as follows: Lenore Folks, Miss Nine Miles; Chantelle Gray, Miss Dunn’s River; Yaneek Grant, Miss Marcus Garvey; Renece Reid, Miss Drax Hall; Shakira Scott, Miss Belmont Great House; Page Dixon, Miss Fern Gully;Jinnelle Munroe-Martyn, Miss Edingburgh Castle; NeyeshaStampp, Miss Roaring River and Daniela Gordon, Miss Seville Great House.The main address at the ceremony was done by Ransford Davidson, Chairman of St. Ann Cultural Development Committee. He gave a powerful and exceptional address where he urged the contestants to use this platform (the Miss St. Ann Festival Queen contest) to change the world. “You can change the world through culture… Nothing is gained without much sacrifice and you must take the step into the world to achieve.”Vote of thanks wad done byKemesha Kelly, Miss St. Ann Festival Queen 2012 and Miss Festival Queen 2012.The audience were entertained by two students of the Mar Jam Preparatory.The coronation show for Miss St. Ann Festival Queen is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 9 at 8 p.m. at Shaw Park Beach Hotel.
