24 complete detective course in Area 2

Two dozen law officers have graduated from an Area 2 training course for detectives.
The Major Investigation Detective Training Course, level one, was conducted over two weeks and was coordinated by DetSgt Martin Morgan and DetCpl Omar Soares
Completing the course were five from Portland, seven from St Ann eight from St Mary as well as two from Technical Services and one each from Narcotics and from Firearm and Licencing Authority (FLA).
The 24 received their certificates at a closing ceremony in the conference room at Area 2 headquarters, headed by acting ACP Glenford Hudson. Mr Hudson in giving the closing remarks spoke about the importance of training and thanked those who had organized and run the sessions. He said the profiles of criminals were changing and so were their tactics and it was thus more challenging for the police. ACP Hudson said the two weeks of training were geared towardbuilding the investigative capacity and skills of the officers. He said they should go and practice what they had learned as that would help build their confidence and trust. He said they were expected to be more committed and innovative on the job.
Guest speaker Franklin McKnight commended the participants and the Force for the training and said Jamaicans wanted to see more crimes being solved and the cleared up rate increase. He encouraged the participants to press their superiors for the tools to better fight crime and said it was time the police stopped taking long hand statements on creased paper now that technology was available. He said statements should be taken without the long, discouraging process to many. Mr McKnight encouraged the participants to determine to be the best among their peers and to be professional in their activities.
