A man who reportedly had some of his teeth damaged during an altercation with another man has asked for $40,000 as compensation.Patrick Weston and Anthony Small appeared in the St. Ann’s Bay Resident Magistrates court on Thursday, January 8 in a case and cross case, before RM Andrea Thomas. Both men, responding to questions from the magistrate, told the court that they wanted the case to be settled without a trial. However, Weston said he lost two of his teeth during the altercation with Small. He said another tooth was also damaged and he needed compensation. “How much are you asking for, Sir,” RM Thomas quizzed. “About $40,000,” Weston responded. Small agreed to pay over the amount. In two other cases before the magistrate on Thursday, both accused pleaded not guilty to the offence and are to return to court for a trial in May.In the case of Raymond White, he is to return to court on May 7 for a trial after the magistrate said his explanation of wounding the complainant, Alphanso Perry was one of self defense. White had offered a plea of guilty with explanation. White is accused to using a stick to hit Perry in the back. White explained to the court that he employed Perry to work with him on a construction site. He said Perry recently returned from jail and no one would employ him. On the day in question, White said he and another worker were putting up a scaffolding when it fell on them. He said they called out to Perry for help but he ignored them. White said when they freed themselves from beneath the scaffolding he went to Perry and asked why he didn’t come. White said he fired Perry from the job and he (Perry) became upset and started hurling stones at him. He said he picked up a stick and defended himself. His matter will go to trial on May 7. In another the other case, Cindy Henry is also scheduled to return to court on May 7 for trial. She is accused of using a piece of stick to hit the complainant, Rose-Ann Laing on the right shoulder. She has denied the allegation. Meanwhile, Denton Rose was offered bail in the amount of $150,000 with up to three sureties. He is accused of robbing the complainant of $9,800. Rose said he is not guilty. He is to return to court on March 5.
