Dear Editor,
I have seen a letter in The Times about employers and the NHT. I would like to know that since some of us won’t qualify for a mortgage with NHT why they continue to take out our salary. I work in the hotel industry and have to pay rent. I have been working for more than ten years and even my co-workers laugh at me for paying rent. Some of them have to capture land down in the Runaway Bay area and Mammee Bay and even up at Tower Isle area (St Mary). They say nutten nah gwaan fi wi. No scheme has been built out here in St Ann and no house is available. I even checked out houses that they are building near Carey Park to Falmouth ,Trelawny and all of those are over 7 million dollars. My salary and even my mother’s salary can’t qualify for that. I believe if we were able to keep our money and the employers would give their amount to us or pay it to our credit union we could save better to buy our own little house or even be better able to pay rent that is sometimes heavy. Please encourage those in power to give us all our NHT money and to stop taking it out. Waiting for seven years won’t help anybody and certainly not me, to get back my money. Stop taking NHT out of my little pay.
I am etc.
