A car washer is before the courts for the death of a woman killed in an accident in Ocho Rios two Saturday nights ago when she was thrown from the vehicle in which she was a passenger.Eighteen-year-old Ryan Jackson has been charged with manslaughter in relation to the death of Joy Reid also called Precious of Retreat in St Mary.Jackson reportedly drove away the vehicle from the car wash where he works, without the permission of the vehicles owner. It slammed into a pick-up truck in which Ms Rose was a passenger. Her common-law husband was driving the pick-up.The St. Ann police have charged Jackson for the death following the road crash in the parish on Saturday, January 11, which claimed the life of Ms Reid has left her common law husband, Roland Piggot, with broken legs in hospital. Jackson is also charged for driving away a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent and for having no driver’s licence and no insurance coverage.According to the allegation, the accused was employed to a car wash in Exchange where the Pajero SUV he was driving at the time of the accident was left to be washed.Jackson reportedly drove away the vehicle without the knowledge or consent of other persons at the car wash.According to the police, Jackson was driving along White River roadway when the vehicle reportedly drifted into the path of a Nissan pickup which was heading in the opposite direction, towards St Mary, from Ocho Rios.Both vehicles collided.Reid, who was a passenger in the Nissan pick-up which was being driven by her common law husband Roland Piggot was reportedly flung from the vehicle on impact.Both Reid and Piggot sustained serious injuries and were taken to the St Ann’s Bay hospital where Reid was pronounced dead.Piggot remains in hospital in serious but stable condition. North Coast Times understands that among other injuries both of Reid’s legs were broken. The accused was remanded into custody by senior resident magistrate for the parish Andrea Thomas until January 23, when the case will again be mentionedA post mortem is expected to be performed on Reid’s body this week.
