The tourist who assaulted a security guard and a police officer walked away as a free man when he appeared in the St. Ann’s Bay Resident Magistrate Court on Tuesday, October 21.

The complainants in the case were security guard Luton Golding and Constable Derron Sterling. The accused, Timothy Moore paid over $300,000 to the security guard and $100,000 to the police officer as opposed to the US$3,000 (J$336,000 equivalent) and the $1,000 (J$112,000 equivalent) respectively that were initially agreed upon.

His family went home on the weekend following the matter and sent the money to be paid to the complainants.

However, attorney Oswest Senior-West who represented Moore said that Western Union refused to conduct the transaction to send that large sum of money because they believed that it was a fraud.

As a result, the money was deposited in an American account of Mr Senior-Smith and was paid out in the form of cheques to the complainants, on Moore’s behalf.

Moore apologized to the court and said he was very sorry for his actions.

“I don’t normally drink but I was on vacation, he said. I have made a mistake that will change my life forever.”

He then shook the hands of the two complainants and offered his apologies in what appeared to be a sincere manner.

Timothy Moore was charged for punching down a security guard, spitting at police officers, kicking a policeman in the face and damaging his vehicle after he was arrested on Thursday, October 16, following a brawl.

The accused man who was vacationing with his family at the Gran Bahia Principe Hotel in Runaway Bay, was involved in the incident at the hotel where he knocked out three of the teeth of a security guard and dislodged three others.

The guard had gone to arrest Moore after complaints about his behavior at the bar. The guard was escorting Moore away from the bar when he put an arm around Moore who objected and on the second occasion when Moore again objected he punched the guard Luton Golding.

Moore continued his boisterous behavior at the Runaway Bay police station after he was arrested and taken there. It is there that he spat at police officers, used indecent language and kicked Constable Derron Sterling and jumped on the cop’s car, damaging the windscreen.
