An attempt is to be made to name the Discovery Bay Community Center, which is under construction in Discovery Bay, St. Ann, in honour of the outgoing Councillor for the Dry Harbour Division Arthur Clemetson.
This was disclosed by Member of Parliament for North West St. Ann, Dr. Dayton Campbell in an interview with the North Coast Times.
Responding to the decision by the PNP delegates on Sunday October 5, to replace Clemetson as candidate for the Dry Harbour Division, Dr. Campbell said, he certainly will not be forgotten.
Dr. Campbell said that on completion of the work at the centre he intends to name the facility the Arthur Clemetson Community Center in an effort to keep Mr Clemetson’s legacy alive for the contribution he has made to politics and the community, including the development of the center.
Clemetson was defeated by his vice chairman Philpott Mitchell in a vote to select the PNP candidate to represent the Dry Harbour Division in the upcoming Local Government Election. The vote took place at the Discovery Bay All Age School on Sunday, October 5.
Mitchell polled 72 to 27 for Vance Clarke and 16 for Clemetson, Dr. Campbell said he regretted that Clemetson had to depart this way, his words were “I prefer it didn’t happen this way because Mr. Clemetson worked hard to develop this Division and the people still have a lot of respect for him.”
