GALA FOR OCHI ON INDEPENDENCE DAY

Free Family Show with Fireworks on Ocho Rios Bay Beach

OCHO RIOS, St Ann; Aug. 5, 2026

Residents of St Ann and neighbouring parishes are in for an Independence treat on Thursday evening, August 6, 2026, when the office of the Mayor of St Ann’s Bay stages its Independence grand gala on the Beach in Ocho Rios.

Marcia Griffiths headlines the show that will also see performances by other leading artistes, including some from the Grand Gala in Kingston.

Mayor of St Ann’s Bay, Michael Belnavis, who is also councillor for Ocho Rios, told the North Coast Times that a large turnout is expected for the show that has been a feature of recent years for the tourism town and St Ann.  It is being staged in collaboration with the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission and also being sponsored by Ian Isaacs, Councillor for the Exchange Division, part of which extends to Ocho Rios.

Gates open at 6 p.m., and the action starts at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

The religious segment that starts at 7 is highlighted by Sista Pat, Rhoda Isabella and Pastor Crystal Maye.

Fireworks will be a big pull at this family event as they have been at other public events held on the Ocho Rios Bay Beach, next to Ocean Village Shopping Centre, including the New Year’s Eve celebrations. The fireworks will start at 10 p.m. At that time, popular DJ Ashile will take centre stage.
