COP TO BE SENTENCED IN SHOOTING DEATH OF ST MARY LOVER

After Attempt at Killing Self, Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter and Gun Charge

PORT MARIA, July 17, 2026

A policeman who shot and killed his lover and then turned the gun on himself but survived is to be sentenced after guilty pleas for manslaughter and firearm charges.

He is Constable Patrick Walters.

(D’Jonnay Graham)

His guilty pleas are in relation to the death of 21-year-old assistant teacher D’Jonnay Damoya Dalia Graham, also called Tifanny, of Essex Valley, Richmond, St Mary.

Graham, also known as Tifanny and Moya, a university student, was shot and killed on June 25 last year, after she and Walters argued over their relationship. After shooting her, Walters shot himself in the head and was hospitalized.

INDECOM investigated what was suspected to be a murder-attempted suicide.

In its ruling to INDECOM, dated July 17, 2025, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) directed that Constable Walters be charged with the offences of:

  • Using a Firearm to Commit a Felony, contrary to s.14(2) Firearms (Prohibition, Restriction and Regulation) Act, and
  • Murder contrary to common law

In a release on Thursday, July 16, 2026, INDECOM said Constable Patrick Walters appeared before the St. Mary Circuit Court in relation to the death of D’Jonnay Graham, where he entered pleas for the two offences for which he was charged.

Constable Walters pleaded guilty to the charge of using a firearm to commit a felony. In relation to the murder charge, he pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter.

The matter will be transferred to the Home Circuit Court in Kingston for sentencing, which is scheduled for September 25, 2026. Constable Walters was remanded in custody pending sentencing.

The North Coast Times reported at the time that, according to sources, the policeman accused Graham of infidelity. She was seeking to end the relationship. The two were in Kingston together earlier that day, Wednesday, June 25, 2025, when an argument broke out over a call she received. The couple continued arguing when they returned home to St Mary, where they lived with Graham’s mother.

As the quarrel soured with harsh words exchanged, the policeman reportedly pulled his service revolver and shot Graham before turning the gun on himself. Police said when they arrived at the scene, after being summoned, the two were seen with gunshot wounds.

Graham was pronounced dead at hospital, and the policeman was admitted under police guard. INDECOM investigated.
