BUFF BAY PRIMARY WINS MATHS CHAMPS

NORWICH DETHRONED AS REGION 2 CHAMPS

PT ANTONIO, Portland; May 12, 2026

Buff Bay Primary has been crowned champion of the Portland Social Development Commission and Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information Region 2 Mathematics competition.

The finals took place on Friday, May 8, 2026.

Buff Bay won in a nail-biting match, defeating defending champions Norwich Primary 28 to 25 at the SDC office in Port Antonio.

Earlier on, former champions Boundbrook Primary defeated Mount Pleasant Primary 41 to 34 for third place.

In the championship match, Buff Bay won the toss, chose to face the quiz master first, and went ahead in the first round, 5 to 3 points. At the end of round two, the scores were levelled at 21 each as Norwich got back into the quiz.

In round three, Norwich had a one-point lead, 27 to 26, scoring 6 points to Buff Bay’s 5 points. In round four, the buzzer section, both teams had two correct answers, gaining four points; however, Buff Bay lost two points for one incorrect answer, while Norwich lost six points for three incorrect answers, with the final score being Buff Bay 28 and Norwich 25 points.

Coach of Buff Bay Primary, Jodyann Thomas, was elated. “It was a very competitive match, and we feel elated as the scores were very close, as we were on our edge throughout the match, it was nail-biting. We hope to be back next year,” she said.
