A man who attacked a police constable was shot and killed in the quiet community of Watt Town, St Ann, in what residents say was a dispute over a woman.

A police report said the man was shot after midnight Tuesday after he attacked a policeman who was visiting a friend in the area.

Dead is Oneil Watson of Harris Town, Watt Town., St Ann

Police reports are that a constable based at a station in St James, drove to the Watt Town community, about ten miles south of Brown’s Town, St Ann, to visit a friend at an area called Bump.

The off-duty cop was armed with his service pistol.

Reports to the North Coast Times are that things turned violent about 12:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 18, 2026

According to police, after the constable had finished visiting the friend, he was in his car and about to leave.  The police say Watson then came on the scene, opened the driver’s door, and began to pull the constable from the vehicle. The constable fell to the ground and, according to police, Watson accused the constable of being on his “turf”. They said Watson held a huge stone above the constable as if he was going to hit him and told the constable he was going to kill him.

The policeman discharged two rounds, and Watson fell. He was pronounced dead at hospital.

Area residents are disputing the police’s version of the story. They say Watson had a relationship with the woman whom the police man was visiting. They say the scene was tampered with before police investigators arrived. INDECOM has been informed.
