BIKER ESCAPES AFTER SHOOTING AT POLICE IN ST MARY

PILLION RIDER HELD; GUN FOUND IN SEPARATE INCIDENT

HIGHGATE, St Mary, Jan. 18, 2026

Police in St Mary are investigating a shooting incident involving lawmen and two men on a motorcycle on Saturday, January 17, 2026.

They are also investigating the seizure of a homemade gun and one round of ammunition on Sunday in Highgate

The incident involving shooting with intent and firearm-related offences occurred along the Siding Main Road, Highgate, St. Mary, at about 12:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Reports indicate that a police team, travelling in a marked service vehicle in the Highgate area, observed a motorcycle with two men on board. On seeing the police vehicle, the driver attempted to evade the police and fled the area. The police pursued and later encountered the same motorcycle in the Siding area, where the occupants were again signalled to stop.

During the encounter, the driver of the motorcycle reportedly pulled a firearm and opened fire at the police. The police team took evasive action and discharged their service weapons. The men on the motorcycle sped away in the direction of Highgate.

Police say about 700 metres from the scene, the pillion rider was found suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower section of his right leg. The driver of the motorcycle escaped in the direction of Highgate with the firearm.

The injured man was apprehended and transported to the hospital where he was admitted in stable condition.

HOMEMADE GUN SEIZED

And, on Sunday, St Mary police seized one firearm along with one round of ammunition in Highgate.

Reports from the police are that at about 2:35 a.m., a police team on operation in the area conducted a search in the vicinity of a bar. The search yielded one silver and green homemade handgun along with one round of ammunition, which was found concealed behind a light post.

No one was arrested in connection with the seizure.
