FARMERS’  CHRISTMAS MARKET IN DISCOVERY BAY FRIDAY

INTENDS TO SHOW RESILIENCE OF FARMERS, PROVIDE FRESH PRODUCE

DISCOVERY BAY, St Ann; Dec 17, 2025

The Farm Town Jamaica Agricultural Society branch in Discovery Bay, St. Ann, has planned a grand Farmers’ Christmas Market at the Puerto Seco Beach Car Park on Friday, December 19, 2025.

The market is the culmination of a series of end-of-month events staged by the farmers as a replacement for the once thriving Discovery Bay Market that has been vacant for over 20 years. It has left a space that Farm Town has endeavoured to fill each month with ground provisions and vegetables at affordable prices and coming straight from the farm.

Branch President Sarah Ferguson says her team has created an ‘Agro Village’ that will demonstrate the resilience of the many farmers who were partially wiped out by the hurricane, but who have returned to the soil with a determination to restore agriculture and open a Christmas window for shoppers starved of local and fresh produce since October 28.”

The market is located on the Discovery Bay main road with an entrance beside the main Puerto Seco gate, ample parking space, and free admission for shoppers.

The Village promises a Christmas spirit of joy and thanksgiving, with displays of fresh fruits, vegetables, ‘hard food’ ground provisions, seedlings, fruit trees, spices, herbs, horticulture, cakes and pastry items, food and drink, art and craft, music, and locally produced coconut oil, honey, and castor oil.

Discovery Bauxite, the Social Development Commission, RADA, Puerto Seco, and the Jamaica Agricultural Society sponsor the all-day event.
