CLEANING UP MELISSA: LOOKING TO CHRISTMAS

PORT MARIA MAYOR OUT FRONT AS TOWN CLEANED UP

PORT MARIA, St. Mary; December 2, 2025

The St Mary Municipal Corporation (SMMC) on Sunday, November 30, 2025, kick started the preparation for the Christmas season by doing a comprehensive clean-up in Port Maria, the parish capital.

(Attention being given to a drain in Port Maria)

The clean-up came in the context of the need for the removal of some Melissa-generated waste in the town centre and against the background of two confirmed reported cases of leptospirosis.

Chairman of the SMMC and Mayor of Port Maria, Fitzroy Wilson, was leading from the front, out among the personnel from various agencies that participated in the clean-up. Mayor Wilson also spoke of plans for vending and other activities associated with Christmas.

Drains were cleaned, sidewalks and shop frontage washed, and bags of waste carted away.

The SMMC cooperated with North East Parks and Markets  (NEPM), the Jamaica Fire Brigade and the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).
