TITCHFIELD HIGH MOURNS STUDENT WHO DROWNED

WEEKEND MISHAP IN PORT ANTONIO SADDENS SCHOOL

PORT ANTONIO, Portland; Sept. 22, 2025

The school population at Titchfield High, Port Antonio, Portland, was in a sombre mood Monday, September 22, 2025, as staff, students and other stakeholders mourned the loss of an upper sixth form student who drowned Sunday.

Dead is Vijay Popley of New Road, Port Antonio.

Popley drowned at Bikini Beach, Errol Flynn Marina, Port Antonio, where he and a group of boys had gone for a swim.

It was reported to the North Coast Times that after the boys had been at the beach for some time, someone mentioned not seeing Vijay. The boys immediately went to the Port Antonio Marine Police Station and made a report. The Port Antonio Fire Station was also informed. Police, fire personnel, the boys and community members started a search.

(News was received with shock and sadness)

About 1:35 p.m., the body was found by the search team and pronounced dead at Port Antonio Hospital.

The school was in a sombre mood on Monday as some students and teachers wept openly. At the same time, a team from the Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth, and Information provided counselling.
