OCHO RIOS, St Ann; July 31, 2025

St Ann-headquartered Irie FM is celebrating its thirty-fifth birthday this weekend and is putting on a huge party in doing so.

August 1, 2025,  Emancipation Day is the 35th anniversary of the station going on air.

The managers and staff of IRIE are celebrating the anniversary with a party at Kaya Drax Hall, next to Scotchies, across from the Drax Hall Playfield. Members of the public are invited to attend for free.

Nicholas Evans, Sales Manager at the country’s number one radio station (based on listenership), says the highlight of the party will be the announcement of Jamaica’s Music Wall of Fame with the installment of 31 musicians on Friday and another four to be decided by popular vote.

Big A is the lead person from Irie coordinating the Wall of Fame.

It will be launched with a show, featuring Mutabaruka, starting at mid-day.

The Wall, including the images, will be erected by October.

Evans told the North Coast Times that the 31 Jamaican musicians to be named for the Wall, Friday,  were decided by a distinguished panel of local and overseas-based experts in music, including managers, producers, and musicians.

The birthday celebration will start from 10 in the morning and run through to midnight, with live broadcasts and a party vibe. “Our sponsors are going to be there and so there will be surprises,  giveaways, and food and drink  throughout the day.”

The Irie birthday celebrations will end with a stage show starting at 10, featuring Nadine Sutherland, Hero, Ghost, Bushman, Yaksta, General B, General Degree, Mr G, Loyal Flames. Hosts for the show are Lady Timry and DJ Amber.
