TAXI DRIVER, PASSENGER SHOT AT POINT BLANK RANGE

MAMMEE BAY, St Ann, June 25, 2025

Two gunmen shot and killed a taxi driver and his passenger at Mammee Bay, along the busy North Coast Highway, on Wednesday afternoon, June 25, 2025

The two men killed are so far unidentified.

Reports to the North Coast Times are that the driver of a gray Probox motorcar, operating as a taxi, was on his way from Ocho Rios to St Ann’s Bay with three men on board. One of the men called for a stop at Greenwhich Acres, close to two large hotels and two residential communities..

Immediately, as the two men in the rear of the vehicle exited, they pulled guns, one pointed his firearm at the driver and the other at the passenger, who was said to be known to the driver. They fired, killing the men on the scene.

Reports said the killers ran toward another vehicle that was waiting close by for them.

Police have not confirmed reports that the men were killed as reprisal for a recent murder in the parish.

Police were called to the scene just before 2 p.m. and cordoned off the busy thoroughfare, which has led to a long line of traffic in both directions.

By late afternoon, it was taking up to two hours to travel two miles where the traffic was diverted from the roundabout at two service stations at Drax Hall, through Greenwich Acres and Steer Town, through Mammee Bay south. The traffic exiting the Edward Seaga Highway at Mammee Bay was also being affected.
