OPERATIONS ACROSS THE PARISH ALSO LEAD TO ARRESTS, CHARGES

PORT MARIA, St Mary; June 15, 2025

A 34-year-old security officer is in custody and is expected to be charged, following the seizure of an illegal firearm and ammunition in Maria, St. Mary, on Sunday, June 15.

That operation followed others in other parts of the parish that led to seizure of uncustomed goods, recovery of a scrapped motor cars, and lottery scamming paraphernalia.

They say that on Friday, a house was searched in Highgate and a quantity of cash in Jamaican and foreign currencies valued at J$400,000 a box of uncustomed cigarettes, and half a pound of ganja were found. On Saturday, more than 15 scrapped motor vehicles were found, during an operation in Gayle, also in the parish.

In the operation on Sunday, June 15, according to police reports, at about 6:15 a.m., law enforcement personnel, acting on intelligence, conducted an operation in Frontier, Port Maria, at the home of the suspect. Upon approach, the man attempted to flee but was  apprehended by the team.

Police say a search led to the discovery of a Smith & Wesson Springfield 9mm pistol with a magazine containing two 9mm rounds.

The firearm and ammunition were seized, and the suspect was taken into custody and later charged with possession of prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition.
