PORTLAND MAN SLAPPED WITH MULTIPLE CHARGES

MAN ATTACKED WITH HAMMER, PHONE STOLEN

HOPE BAY, Portland; Jan. 15, 2025

A Portland man who attacked another with a hammer and stole the man’s phone during a dispute has been slapped with three charges.

Forty-three-year-old Gavin Lindsay, a contractor of Union district, Hope Bay, Portland, has been charged with robbery with aggravation, unlawful wounding, and assault occasioning bodily harm.

The charges arose out of an incident in Orange Bay in the parish two months ago.

Reports from the Hope Bay Police are that at about 7:30 a.m., on Thursday, November 14, 2024, a man was standing along the main road when he saw Lindsay and four other men disembark a vehicle.

The complainant approached Lindsay and asked him for money owed to a friend of his.

The conversation developed into a dispute. Lindsay used a hammer to hit the man on his right hand, causing swelling and bruising. Police said another man in Lindsay’s company used a screwdriver to stab the man on his left hand, causing a wound.

The man managed to escape the attack and was assisted to the hospital, where he was treated and released.

A report was made to the police, and Lindsay was picked up during an operation. He was found with a Samsung A10 cellular phone, valued at thirty-five thousand Jamaican dollars (J$35,000), belonging to the complainant. Lindsay was subsequently charged after a question-and-answer session in the presence of his attorney.

His court date is being finalized.
