PRISONER BEATEN IN BUFF BAY POLICE STATION
BUFF BAY, Portland; Dec. 1, 2024
A Portland man has been charged with murder in the beating death of an inmate at the police station in Buff Bay in the parish.
Charged with murder is twenty-two-year-old Malik Lewis, a baker of White River, Buff Bay, Portland.
Lewis was charged with the murder of 57-year-old Patrick Perry, a farmer of Long Bay in the parish. This arose from an incident more than two months ago, on September 20.
Reports from the Port Antonio Police are that at about 10:05 a.m., Friday, September 20, 2024, Perry was in lock-up at the station when a commotion was heard on the cellblock.
Officers visited the cell and Perry was found unresponsive, apparently having been severely beaten. He was assisted to the hospital where he was admitted. On Sunday, September 29, Perry succumbed to his injuries.
On Thursday, November 21, Lewis was charged after a question-and-answer session in the presence of his attorney. His court date is being finalised.
The police report did not indicate on what charges the two men were being held, the nature of the injuries to Perry and whether there is or was any investigation of how the incident happened.
