CHARGED IN 2 SHOP-BREAKING INCIDENTS

GUN USED TO ATTACK SECURITY

OCHO RIOS, St Ann; Sept 16, 2024–

A St Ann man who broke into two shops on different occasions, used a firearm to attack another man in at least one of the incidents is facing several charges.

He is 24-year-old Romeish Golding of Buckfield, Ocho Rios, St. Ann. The two break-ins occurred on Easter Monday, April 1, and Tuesday, July 23, 2024.

Golding has been charged with shop-breaking and larceny, shooting with intent, possession of prohibited weapon, unauthorized possession of ammunition, using a firearm to commit a felony, attempted shop-breaking with intent, and malicious destruction of property.

  • In the first incident, on Monday, April 1 about 3:50 a.m., the police responded to information that a store was being broken into in Ocho Rios.

On their arrival, there was evidence that the store was broken into by cutting a padlock to the front grille and breaking the glass to the front door. A quantity of assorted jewellery, valued at approximately J$200,000  was stolen. During the investigation, footage from the CCTV system showed Golding as the suspect.

  • In the second incident, on Monday, July 22 a man who was working at a plaza was doing routine checks when he heard noise coming from the back of a business establishment. He went to enquire and saw two men with guns. The gunmen opened fire at the man, however, he escaped unhurt.

Investigations revealed that the gunmen entered the premises by cutting a section of fence located at the back of the business establishment. Golding was arrested, and he was charged after he reportedly confessed to committing the crime.

His court date has not been finalised and his accomplice, in the second incident, is being sought by the police.
