ST ANN MAJOR LEAGUE STARTS WITH DOUBLE-HEADER

NEWLY PROMOTED DRY HARBOUR, MT EDGECOMBE  HOPEFUL

The St. Ann Major League 2024 Season is set to kick off on Tuesday afternoon, April 30, at Drax Hall with a doubleheader starting at 4 o’clock.

The two Division One teams promoted to the Major League – Mt Edgecombe and Dr Harbour — bow into action in the ten-team competition.

Major League runners-up from last season, Volvo United will oppose Division One champions Mount Edgecombe in the first march while at 6 p.m. Major League champion Madras FC will face Division One runners-up Dry Harbour FC.

Ten teams will participate in the League where the eventual winner will book a place in the Tier 2 playoffs for the upcoming season.

Speaking to the North Coast Times weeks before the start of the Major League, manager of Dry Harbour Collie Bailey say his team was preparing for the season and their preparation was going well.

Mr Bailey said his players were excited about playing in the league and they knew they had a serious task because they were on a journey. He said the team members know the task at hand and how serious Major League football is. Mr Bailey says it is the first time in years that a team from Discovery Bay is entering the Major League.

Meanwhile, over the last two weeks, there has been excitement in the Mt Edgecombe camp after the team was able to secure the services of a coach. Gareth Dugal the former coach of Runaway Bay FC has joined the Mount Edgecombe set-up.

Manager for the team Andre Thompson says Mt Edgecombe won Division One without a coach and were desperate to get one. He says the team members are excited and putting in the work ahead of their first match in the Major League.

Mt Edgecombe player Aaron Manasseh says that they are there not to make up numbers but to win the league. He says the aim is to win the league and then book one of the spots in Tier 2.
