HUNT ON FOR ST ANN COP KILLER
ST ANN’S BAY, April 15, 2024
Police Commissioner Dr. Kevin Blake has ordered a top-level probe into the killing of a Police Constable in St. Ann’s Bay, St. Ann on Monday evening, April 15, 2024.
The cop has been identified as 45-year-old Constable Ricardo Fairclough of St Ann’s Bay, assigned to the St. Ann Divisional Operational Support Unit.
A woman is in critical condition after she was shot by the same man who later turned his gun on the policeman. The murder and shooting took place with 150 yards from the St Ann police headquarters.
Many details have not been officially confirmed. But reports to North Coast Times are that about 8:30 Monday evening, a man and a vendor were involved in a dispute on Bravo Street, about 100 yards from the police station. The Police Headquarters housing St Ann’s Bay Police Station is at the intersection of Bravo and Main Street.
The man reportedly opened fire hitting the woman.
It is reported that Constable Fairclough was on the street, approached the scene and accosted the gunman. There was an exchange of gunfire and the constable was hit and fell.
He and the woman were rushed to the St Ann’s Bay Hospital just a mile away as a large crowd gathered.
The Times reported, late Monday night, that Senior Superintendent of Police Dwight Powell was among police personnel at the hospital where Constable Fairclough was pronounced dead.
In a statement early Tuesday, Dr Blake expressed condolences on behalf of the Police High Command to the family, friends and colleagues of the slain policeman.
The police say the Force’s Chaplaincy Branch and Welfare Department are providing support to the family members, friends and colleagues of Constable Fairclough.
