CLAIM MADE BY OTHER MAN THAT LAND WAS HIS
A St Mary man was shot dead in the parish Thursday following an argument over apples.
Dead is Ryan Prendergast of Belfield Penn in the parish.
Detectives assigned to the St. Mary Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB) are investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting death of Mr Prendegast
Police say that about 2:45 p.m., Thursday, Prendergast and a man went to a property to pick apples where they were confronted by another man. It is said that the man claimed that they were on property leased by him.
During the confrontation, the man pulled a firearm and opened gunfire in the direction of both men, hitting Prendergast, while the other man escaped unhurt. The police were alerted, and the injured man was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police recovered three spent casings.
