EIGHT NOW HELD BUT NO CHARGE AFTER A WEEK
A third policeman has been arrested as investigations continue in the murder of 30-year-old Tajay Simms, in Ocho Rios, on Saturday morning January 27.
Two policemen and five of their friends were arrested more than a week ago concerning the incident. There is no word about when any of them will be charged.
A third cop handed himself over to the St James police on Saturday, February 3. He was accompanied by an attorney.
Simms, of Bartley Town, Gayle, St Mary was shot and killed in the Mother’s Restaurant in the resort town at about 2 in the morning, during an altercation with several men about the place of one of them in a line going to the Cashier.
During the dispute that started with harsh words and then became physical one of the men left the store, returned with a gun, and shot Simms in the chest.
He died at hospital.
Customers and onlookers recorded the registration plate of the car in which the men made their escape. Police also had access to CCTV footage.
Within hours of the incident, two policemen and five civilians were arrested. They are all from the Gayle area where Simms also lived.
