Sandals Royal Plantation defeated Jewel Runaway Bay 3-1 in their Sandals sponsored St Ann/ Mary Business House Football league match on Thursday, August 14 at the Drax Hall Sports complex, St Ann.
The Sandals team had a well organized line up, dominating the first and second halves of the game. The opening goal came in the 16th minute from the boots of Leon Evans, #10, of Sandals Royal Plantation. The goal was perfectly executed, placed low in the bottom corner from the six-yard-box.
Sandals Royal Plantation was encouraged by their goal and sought to press on.
Kevin Graham, #14 and and Kirk Lyle # 5 of Sandals were both cautioned in the first half as Sandals Royal Plantation stepped up the pace. Their second goal came in the 23rd minute. Vivian Hinds #9 of Sandals received a lofted ball and got the chance to break through the Jewel back four to easily chip the ball over the goal keeper.
When the second half commenced, the Sandals team kept their composure but began to make some dangerous tackles, one of which cost them a penalty, much to the disappointment of coach Kirkland Johnson, who wanted to keep a clean sheet. Kenard Carnegie #10 of Jewel Runaway Bay, hit the back of the net from the spot, beating Sandals goal keeper Orane Edwards. This brought more life to the game.
The Jewel defence was not playing at their best and the backline seemed very vulnerable.
Sandals Royal Plantation made a substitution and he played exceptionally well helping them reap their third goal of the match in the 78th minute, through Marlo Donalds, #8. He received a perfect squared pass from his team mate which allowed him to volley the ball into the back of the Jewel net. Sandals played to keep their two-goal cushion, running out 3-1 winners.
