The body of nine year old Opal Knight a student of the Irwin Primary school in St James, was discovered hanging from a tree in her back yard in St John’s community of Retirement St James on Friday, Labour Day, May 23. Paul Robinson a neighbour to the girl said when he saw the girl dangling from the cord on the tree he tried to put her foot for her to stand on the ground but the girl died shortly after. An oil keg, on which the girl apparently stood before casting herself off to be hanged, was also discovered on the scene. The North Coast Times reporter was shown the black electric cord that was apparently placed around her neck and from which she hanged. Member of Parliament Sharon Folkes Abrahams and Councillor Michael Troupe visited the home.
