PORT ANTONIO STREETS

PORT ANTONIO STREETS: Several persons were trapped in their homes and business places on Thursday morning g after a torrential downpour lasting thirty minutes flooded Blake Street and sections of Harbour Street, Port Antonio. This left several people angry and many hurled blame at the water and sewage project being done in Port Antonio. They allege that a section of a drain has been cut off and hoses and a pump used to remove water were not being operated ahead of the Labour Day holiday. This they said caused the water to flood the streets. Customers of two restaurants along Harbour street were trapped inside from 9 o’ clock to 9:30 as the water level rose. When the rain stopped a police unit and officers had to assist customers of Nix Nax restaurant to get out. A customer of Portland Jerk centre said she was concerned about the danger posed by the flooding.Carmen Williams, a 65-year-old woman said in all her years around Port Antonio  she had never seen it like this.
