- Eighth man in case has died
One of eight men charged in a sex case involving a 12-year-old girl from Highgate, St Mary has died. An attorney close to the case explained that he died approximately two months ago from medical complications.
Seven men are now to answer to the sex charges brought against them in connection with the girl.
The case was brought before senior parish judge, Andrea Collins on Thursday, June 30 in the St Mary Parish Court.
The Times broke the story in July of 2015 that a primary school female student had named several men as having sex with her. The victim cannot be named or otherwise identified because of the nature of the case.
Charged for sex with a person under the age of 16 are: Oneil Donaldson, unemployed; Antonio Nelson, vendor; David Watson, higgler; Orane Donaldson, alias Blacks, unemployed; Tevon Dennis, unemployed, all of Highgate.
The accused that has died, 45-year-old Robert Monoroth, a taxi operator of Belfield, St. Mary, had been charged for sex with a person under the age of 16.
Also charged in relation to sexual acts with the twelve-year-old are: Devon Palmer, chef, who is charged with incest and Noel Anderson, a taxi operator, who is charged with rape. Both are from Highgate.
In court on Thursday, one of the accused men, Antonio Nelson was not brought to court. He is in custody facing a murder charge and also wounding with intent.
The statements in the case are not in compliance with the new Committal Proceedings Act (CPA).
One of the attorneys in the matter, Dane Marsh, had asked Judge Collins whether the matter is to be separated, but she explained that once the statements are in compliance, the matter can be transferred to the circuit court and a decision can then be made by that jurisdiction.
The matter is to be mentioned on September 29.
