2 in Runaway Bay Murder appear in court, denied bail

TWO HELD FOR BRUTAL RUNAWAY BAY MURDER STILL NOT CHARGED

Two men are now in lock up and have been charged for the brutal murder of a man in Runaway Bay, St. Ann in August.

The second man to be charged is  Junior White, for the murder of 41-year-old Dwight Asphall of Mount Edgecombe in Runaway Bay, St. Ann.

Another suspect, Shawn Thompson of Montego Bay in St James was charged earlier for Asphall’s murder.

Both men appeared in the St. Ann’s Bay resident magistrate court, last Thursday, August 28. The men appeared before resident magistrate Calys Wiltshire and were remanded into custody until September 3.

In court last Thursday, the lawyer representing Thompson told the court that he had not been fully instructed by his client and was unable to proceed with the case against him. He requested more time to be properly instructed.

The lawyer also asked the court to order that his client receive medical attention and that he is fed a special meal while in custody. Thompson, the court was told, does not eat meat.

Both men were taken into custody on August 8, for questioning in relation to the  murder of Asphall whose mutilated body was found by police inside his house about 10:30 p.m.

Earlier reports are that the men were handed over to police in Discovery Bay, allegedly by a taxi operator who realized that the two were covered in blood. Police said after they questioned the men they were led to Asphall’s house where his body was found.

He was stabbed multiple times. Both men were taken into custody and later charged.

Asphall had recently returned to Jamaica after spending three years away on the overseas work programme.

It is still not clear what led to the deadly attack on Asphall.
