QUAKE RATTLES JAMAICA
No major damage or fatality has been reported from this morning’s powerful 5.6 earthquake which shook the country.
The epicentre of the quake was near the mouth of the Rio Grande, in Portland.
Many Jamaicans were reporting that this is the heaviest shaking from an earthquake they had felt.
People in New Kingston reported buildings swaying, things falling from shelves, and tables and other furniture moving. In some hilly areas of eastern Jamaica, there were rockslides triggered by the quake.
There are reports of minor damage to buildings in Cross Roads, St Andrew and downtown Kingston where at least three abandoned buildings collapsed.
Activities were disrupted at the Supreme Court where the Chief Justice said he took the precaution of going under a desk. Here is a video from a supermarket in St Andrew. Watch:
