YORK CASTLE HIGH STUDENTS IN USA FOR ROBOTICS CHAMPIONSHIP

 

WINNING J’CA TEAM SET TO COMPETE AGAINST THE WORLD

 

April 15, BROWN’S TOWN

A 12-member delegation from York Castle High School, Brown’s Town, St Ann, is in the United States preparing to bow into the First Tech Challenge (FTC) World Robotics Competition in Houston, Texas.

York Castle won the local leg of the FTC  competition in February, earning the right to compete with nearly 200 teams from around the world, in the championship that starts Tuesday, April 16.

The team of 11 students drawn from grades 9 to 13, and their teacher Derron Johnson, left Jamaica on Saturday, April 13, for Texas.

Sponsors of the local leg of the competition, NCB Foundation as well as York Castle Alumni Association, Evergo, Birdshack Fried Chicken,  Universal Service Funds, Covenant Insurance Brokers, and Spectrum Management Authority provided the bulk of the funds to make the trip possible for the Brown’s Town-based York Castle High.

( The York Castle High team was met in Houston Saturday by Honorary Consul of Jamaica, Khalfani Omari Fullerton).

York Castle has a strong history in the competition having won it in 2022. Jamaica College won last year.

York Castle had two teams in the competition this year – a junior and senior team. It was the latter who copped the competition in Kingston
