Police are once again investigating a murder in the volatile community of Steer Town.
The latest murder occurred Saturday morning about 12:30, May 9, the very day the previous murder victim, MarlettBrisco from the community was being buried. (See p???)She was shot dead in her home after receiving threats.
Dead is 23-year-old David Nevers of Hollywood, Steer Town. Nevers had come from Clarendon to live in the area months ago.
Police reports are that Nevers was sitting on a chair in a shop ‘A Yah Suh Nice” in the community when a man approached him pulled a fire arm and shot him several times, in the face and head. Some reports say the gunman was seen with three other armed men shortly before the shooting.
Nevers was rushed, by a private motorist, to the St Ann’s Bay Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police believe that the death of Nevers is the latest casualty in a long running gang feud in the area. It is also believed that his murder is in reprisal for the shooting death of another resident, in November last year in the community.Twenty-four-year-old Aniela “Neika’ Morgan was shot dead and a relative wounded following late evening attack by several gunmen on a bar in Steer Town, November 12, 2014.
Police sources say they remain concerned about people coming from troubled communities, as is the case with Nevers, and hanging out or living in Steer Town.
Officer in charge of crime in St Ann, DSP Everton Grant told the North Coast Times that police are carrying out several operations in the area and intense investigations into this and recent crimes in Steer Town and also continuing efforts at conflict resolution to help reach a solution to some of the issues faced.
