PROTEST OVER POOR WAGES, WORKING CONDITIONS
RUNAWAY BAY, St Ann; Nov. 22, 2024
(Bahia Principe workers at the hotel’s gate, Runaway Bay)
Dozens of workers at Bahia Principe Hotel, Runaway Bay, St Ann, walked off the job Friday afternoon, Nov. 22, 2024.
They were protesting over low wage and poor working conditions, including extended contract periods.
Some workers left their posts earlier in the morning Friday and gathered at the front of the hotel in protest, calling for improved wages. They were called into a meeting with management and some returned to their jobs, as requested. However, the meeting ended abruptly over what some of the leaders said were disrespectful comments by members of the management team.
At the time of this posting by the North Coast Times, just after 5 p.m. Friday it was unclear what the decision of the workers was regarding the protest.
The protests comes days after workers at Excellence in the neighbouring parish of Trelawny were promised increased and improved conditions after their strike last week.
We will keep you up to date on the Bahia protest.
