Woman joined by community leaders in throwing back-to-school treat

One woman’s benevolence was highlighted when she catered for and feted close to eighty children in her third annual back to school treat. The event was held at Kerisha’s Place in Old Folly Road, Discovery Bay, St. Ann on Thursday afternoon, August 27.Kerisha Simpson, bar operator and practical nurse, also known as ‘Muma’ is the main organizer of the annual treat and she explained that she has a passion for helping kids. It was out of this love why the back to school treat was organized. “I love kids and I always wanted to give back something to them,” she explained.This year’s event saw Ms Simpson joining with several individuals, business people and community members to make the event possible. These included MP for North West St Ann Dr. Dayton Campbell; Philpot Mitchell, Denise Brown, Kenrick Dixon, Fitzroy’s Wholesale and chefs Patrick ‘Tear Up’ Downer and Naverick Kates. Music was provided throughout the day by Touch International.The afternoon began with devotion and prayer by Evelyn Wallford. The children were then treated with snacks, soups, hot meal, dessert including ice-cream and back to school stationery, including hardcover note books, pencils, and crayons.MP for North West St. Ann, Dr Dayton Campbell lauded the efforts of Kerisha Simpson in putting on the back to school treat and encouraged other persons to follow such ventures. “We enjoy when persons in their communities take the initiative to give back. Whenever somebody is willing to do that, we are more than willing to come on board. Kerisha has been doing this for quite a long while and we were more than happy to come on board to partner with her efforts at giving back to the kids in the area….”Philpott Mitchell, the caretaker of the Dry Harbour division also lauded Ms. Simpson for her work in supporting the children of the Old Folly community at this crucial time of back-to-school.Parents were not left out of the afternoon activities as they were treated as well. Most of the children, between the ages of two years old and 13 years old, were very appreciative of the gesture as their faces glowed, while parents expressed their gratitude for the back to school treat.
