Several St Mary communities are being affected by a shortage of water over the past month.
The issue was brought up by councillors at the monthly meeting of the St Mary Municipal Corporation on Thursday, September 14.
Councillor for the Hampstead division, the Jamaica Labour Party’s Mitsey Hudson told the meeting that section of her division, including Mosquito Hole, White Hall and Grace Street in Bailey’s Vale, were experiencing major water challenges.
Also reporting water shortage was councillor for the Highgate division, Paul Fyffe. He said areas being affected include Hopewell, Top Fraserwood, Big Wood and sections of Dean Pen, which were served by the Palmetto Grove plant.
Miss Hudson said that she had sought help but none had come from the National Water Commission (NWC).
Chairman Richard Creary said he was going to reach out to the NWC and if no help was forthcoming, he would consider using council funds to truck water to the affected communities.
